Dear CISD Community,

Welcome to our monthly School Board meeting newsletter. This edition brings you some highlights of the School Board meeting that was held on November 10, 2025. Our goal is to keep you connected and informed each month.

Recognition

CISD Cross Country

"Blue and Gold Students" were recognized on Monday night. The CHS Cross Country team, lead by Coach George Edwards, had an outstanding season. The girls qualified for regionals for a second year in a row, and one athlete qualified for regionals and state. CC boys qualified for regionals for the fourth year in a row while for the first time ever, a Bobcat made the regional meet and qualified for state.

FFA Public Relations Team

The FFA Public Relations Team, sponsored by Mrs. Lauren Kitchens, was recognized as they prepare for an upcoming competition at the Hill District Leadership Development Contest. Their team gave an engaging and informative presentation on the history of FFA and Comfort ISD.

Teacher Recognition

Principals Amy Ellis, Jolane Maddox, and Sarah Womble proudly acknowledged the remarkable contributions of faculty and staff Jose Cantu, Kathy Lampkin, and Monica Onofre, demonstrating the district's commitment to excellence.

Information Items

  • Superintendent, Dr. Yvonne Munoz reported on the Faculty and Staff, Parent, and Student Hybrid Calendar Feedback Survey results reflecting on overall positive rating of 4.41 out of 5.00
  • Dr. Munoz shared out on the upcoming Retired Teachers' Luncheon, which will be held November 13, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at CMS's original gym.
  • The Superintendent informed the Board that the annual CISD Christmas Open House will be held December 16, 2025.
  • Director of Academic Services, Dr. Boothe, gave an update on intervention Friday attendance, December testing, and Bilingual Program evaluation. Dr. Boothe informed the Board of the upcoming "Food Around the World" family bingo night on December 3rd from 5:00-7:00 at CHS.
  • Health/Safety/Communications Coordinator, Emily Steffek, discussed the successful antibullying Run, Walk, Roll Event held October 22, 2025. She informed the Board of the middle and high school required Fentanyl presentations, continued Sentinel door sweeps, and continued district, parent, and community communication. Mrs. Steffek reported on the School Safety and Security meeting held October 27, 2025 as well as gave an update on the successful student, parent, and faculty hybrid calendar surveys.
  • All campus principals recognized a faculty or staff member.
  • Athletic Director, Jay Rieken, reported on boys and girls basketball, the end of cross country and volleyball season, and football going to the playoffs.
  • Jennifer updated the board on the technology infostructure update resulting in 85% new equipment in all schools. The technology department continues to work to improve the district's security posture and data security.
  • McLemore janitorial services gave an update about the cleaning schedule over Thanksgiving holiday, the deep cleaning taking place, and the use of the 360 machine to proactively minimize health risks.
  • Operations Director Trent Wilson gave an update on the hiring a new staff member to allow more campus coverage and faster response time. HVAC unit was changed out in the JV boy's locker room and fixed the air in the old locker room on the girls' side. Athletic field had rye grass put down and will be doing so on the baseball field as well. Elementary had a water heater replaced. The high school had signs put up for restrooms and the ticket booth. Middle school faucets are being worked on. Elementary had a new exhaust ordered for the girls' restroom. The technology building is being painted to match central office.

  • The School Board approved the 2025-2026 Safe and Supportive School Program Teams.
  • The School Board approved Wesley Holekamp to serve on the Kerr Central Appraisal District Board.
  • The Board approved the 4-H Resolution and Adjunct Faculty Agreement.
